Bell Ringers

Bell Ringers, Brain Warm Ups, Flashback...whatever you like to call them, we all have one. Those little activities we have students begin the moment they walk in the door that serve several purposes: to engage them immediately (crowd control), review the material they have been working on and to serve as an informal assessment. These activities usually show where we have been, where we are and indicate where we might need to go, in a very neat little package.

I have worked on a formatted sheet to put a week’s worth on one sheet or two weeks if you use double-sided copies.
So, let's say that we use math flashbacks for week this week. The answer sheet might look something like this:

However, if you wanted it to be a 4.0 score and end it on Thursday to be entered as a grade on Friday, I can make you one for that as well.

What is RTI?

WHAT IS RTI

Response To Intervention (RTI) was formed as a result of 2004’s Reauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) mandate, that required school districts nationwide to reduce the number of special education placements.

RTI was designed to help solve the issue of the overrepresentation of minority students under the classification of Mild Mental Retardation and/or Behaviorally Emotionally Handicapped.

Based on the successful medical model of public health the RTI Model has three Tiers of Intervention ranging from less intensive (Tier I) to most intensive (Tier III).

Fall Break

We are currently in what Fayette County calls "Fall Break" which consists of  2 days off at the end of last week.  Next week, back to the grind.  I will be teaching elementary and middle.  After this break, I am ready to go back to work.

I am really ready to start my graduate program November 1.  I am keeping my eye on the ball.  :)

Substituting

Currently I am substituting in Lexington, Kentucky for Fayette County schools.  Wow, what a ride, Kindergarten one day 12th the next.  I am even teaching Spanish next week, I hope the plans are good.  One of the wonders of being in different teacher's classrooms every day is that I get to see the incredible creations they have made made for their students.  Last week I was in a third grade class and learned a new strategy for Author's Purpose; it is called PIE (Persuade, Inform and Entertain).  The graphic organizer is in the shape of a pie cut into three pieces: one for Persuade, second for Inform and third for Entertain.  I have to make my own poster and take a picture for you. Please, if you have any thoughts or ideas on this post please post below.
